Hi, I am on Day 7 of my Journey, and I have just completed my testing; the first half didn’t go very well; I couldn’t tell the notes apart. However the second half I imagined that I had just played the note I heard, on my guitar and I thought; where would I put my fingers for this note? I instantly got a much improved score! So I found that I already associated the note sound with a fretboard position through years of playing the guitar.
So my idea and the reason why I am contacting you is that I could buy small circular stickers of the colour we are learning to associate each note with and stick it on the note on the guitar (or on the piano if you play this). I would then reinforce the association by playing my guitar. I feel this would really help me but just wanted to check with you to see if it is a good idea.
Thanks Graham, so far the course is going really well.
Stuart
Hey Stuart. Thanks for the update. Sounds like you’re kicking butt! Way to go.
I like your process. You came up with a unique solution to your absolute pitch testing. That’s a “music hack.” Everyone else reading this, try Stuart’s technique. Imagine where you would put your fingers to get that pitch. It’s another type of pitch trigger.
Using stickers seems like a good idea to me. It probably can’t hurt since it’s creating more and, most likely, stronger associations.
Another trick that I’ve been showing students is to use my Brainwave Flasher. Stimulating your eyes with a strobe light at a specific frequency is another way to entrain your brain to achieve a peak accelerated learning state. Use a frequency between 4 and 10 Hz (Theta to low Alpha).
Hi Graham
I am doing the course and feel it is working,I remember doing my intervals at college and at the time was not good at them but now they are in my head i feel this will be the same as that, one day it will just be thier, i have one question though. I am quite busy and make time to do the exercises and am now doing the pitch language units but what i want to know is when you say recap the the jouney stages do you mean listen to all twelve in thier intirety at this stage as i find it does take an hour to do so and have to allocate that time i am very driven and write songs learn guitar play in a band work in a recording studio so sorry if this seems a daft question
Thanks Tone
Hey Tone. Check your email. I just responded to you.
